In part two of our new model year preview, we’re taking a look at the big changes coming to the 2020 GMC Sierra, Sierra HD and Canyon!
2020 GMC Sierra HD
This year’s Sierra HD is fresh off the factory floor with all-new design. Looks wise, it borrows heavily from the 2019-2020 Sierra 1500, but bulks up a bit thanks to the HD’s heavy-duty hefty size.
The bones of the Sierra HD have changed even more than the body has. A new, stronger frame flanked by a new 10-speed automatic transmission give the Sierra HD a noticeably more capable core.
Throw in the state-of-the-art 6.6-liter Duramax diesel engine for a healthy heart, and this pickup has serious strength.
With 445 horsepower, 910 pound-feet of torque and a top towing capacity of more than 30,000 pounds, this year’s Sierra HD has more than earned the heavy duty tagline.
If you’re looking for something a little more rugged, the newly-introduced AT4 trim lets you take your heavy duty workload off-road.
The mind of the Sierra HD is also sharper than ever, thanks to an array of new tech treatments.
Seeing is believing, and you’ll be able to see more of the Sierra HD than ever before thanks to up to 15 selections of camera views from various standard and available cameras.
Backing up is a breeze with the backup camera.
You’ll be able to have your trailer vanish before your very eyes with the new “Transparent Trailer” mode.
2020 GMC Sierra
Unlike the HD’s massive overhaul, the regular duty Sierra sees more limited changes.
The newly-introduced 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-6 engine offers another option when picking this pickup’s powerhouse.
For those sticking with the 5.3-liter V8 on the SLT, AT4 and Denali trims, the 4WD versions have an available 10-speed automatic transmission.
The AT4 and Denali trims also bring full availability for the innovative CarbonPro truck bed.
The Elevation trim also comes in crew-cab flavor now.
New tech toys include available adaptive cruise control alongside the magic-like Transparent Trailer trickery.
Speaking of trailers, two trailer towing mirrors have been added to the available option collection.
2020 GMC Canyon
Last on the list, the 2020 Canyon keeps things short and simple.
Tire Fill Alert now comes standard, giving you audio and visual notifications to tell you when your tires are at the perfect pressure point during filling.
A new Driver Alert Package provides available forward collision warning and lane-departure warning driving aids.
Finally, a new color choice has joined the ranks: Carbon Black Metallic.
